How Online Casino Play Works in Alberta
This page explains how online casino play works in Alberta now that the regulated market is open. It covers who runs the market and how to check a site. It then explains where Play Alberta fits and what the home page ad is.
A new regulated market
AGLC opened registration for prospective online operators and suppliers on January 13, 2026. The regulated private market launched on July 13, 2026. Two bodies share the work. AGLC regulates the market, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation, or AiGC, manages it.
An operator needs both steps to run legally in Alberta. It must register with AGLC and also sign an operating agreement with AiGC. One without the other is not enough.
Players face their own limits. Registered operators must make sure only people physically located in Alberta can play. The legal gambling age in the province is 18.

How to check an online site
- Open the AiGC directory of registered iGaming sites at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites.
- Search for the exact name of the site, spelled as it appears on its pages.
- If the site is not in the directory, it is not regulated.
- Look for the AiGC logo, which approved operators display.
Play Alberta and the advertising rules
Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, is the province's own online gaming site, run by AGLC. It did not close when private operators arrived. It still runs alongside them, and its revenue goes to the Government of Alberta.
Advertising follows AGLC standards for anyone promoting an online gaming site. Every ad must carry a responsible gambling message. Ads cannot target minors or use people who appear to be minors. They cannot tie gaming to attractiveness or status. Offers for players may be advertised only on the operator's own site, which is why this guide shows none.
The ad on our home page
The home page of this guide carries one button marked Ad. It leads to an online casino run by a partner. That casino is not this site, not Play Alberta and not run by the province. The partner can change, and the site earns a commission.
No such link appears on this page. Before using any online casino, check it in the AiGC directory yourself.
