A downtown casino beside the arena

Grand Villa Casino Edmonton stands at 10204 104 Avenue NW, in downtown Edmonton's ICE District beside Rogers Place. Gateway Casinos runs it. The casino opened on September 7, 2016, one day before the arena next door. At that opening it was described as a 60,000 sq ft, four-storey casino with private gaming salons.

Its roots go back to June 2002, when Gateway acquired the Baccarat Casino in Edmonton. On April 13, 2015, Gateway announced a new $32 million casino to replace it. Partners were the Katz Group and Oilers Entertainment Group, at the corner of 102 Street and 104 Avenue. The old Baccarat was demolished in 2020, and a small dog park and the ICE District Fan Park event space replaced it. In this guide the venue sits in the Edmonton area section, among the 30 venues listed on this site.

Questions

Who runs Grand Villa Casino Edmonton?

Gateway Casinos runs it. Gateway acquired Edmonton's Baccarat Casino in June 2002 and announced its replacement on April 13, 2015. The new casino opened on September 7, 2016.

Why was the casino closed for so long?

It stayed closed from March 2020 to July 2022, longer than provincial COVID orders required. As a penalty, AGLC removed 57 slot machines and set operating conditions for their return. A three-person hearing panel later sided with Grand Villa, finding it should decide when to operate, within reason.

Can you eat at Grand Villa Casino Edmonton?

Two sit-down restaurants share the pedway level. One is a steakhouse. Match Eatery & Public House is a British-style pub with live music, DJs and sports on TV.
